Energy Efficiency upgrade for South Shore Apartment Complex

The Project Overview

This commercial project involved air sealing and insulating the attics of 23 buildings in an apartment complex. Our team focused on several key energy-efficiency improvements, which included:

• Air Sealing Attic Penetrations: We ensured that all penetrations in the attics, such as plumbing stacks, wiring, and ductwork, were properly air sealed. These penetrations, if left untreated, allow conditioned air to escape, increasing energy costs. Over 65 Cases of Air Sealing foam were used.

• Attic Stair Covers: To further reduce air leakage, we installed insulated attic stair covers on all attic accesses. Attic stairs can be a major source of heat loss if not properly insulated, so this step ensures a more energy-efficient seal between the living space and the attic.

• Blown-in Cellulose Insulation: We added blown-in cellulose insulation to the attics to achieve an impressive R-value of 49. This level of insulation is crucial in keeping heat inside during the colder months, reducing the need for excessive heating. This project took a whopping 4,393, 40 pound bags of cellulose to achieve the desired R-Value.

Timeline and Execution

The scope of the project was vast, and our team worked diligently to ensure it was completed efficiently and to the highest standards. In total, the project took two and a half weeks from start to finish. This rapid timeline was achieved thanks to our skilled team of energy professionals and well-coordinated project management. We ensured that the disruption to residents was minimal while delivering superior insulation results.
